Hi, um, could I ask your opinion on something? I'm a girl and I used to identify as straight because I really only found myself attracted to/interested in dating men. But this weekend, I met a girl, and I kind of fell head over heels. I happen to know from her facebook she's interested in men and women, and I think I maybe picked up that she was flirting with me? Anyway, I've never felt this way before, so I'm not sure if I should act on it or kind of just see where things go from here. Thanks:)

i would go for it. or you could wait a little while and see if you still have feelings for her, because it may just be that you didn’t fall head over heels but rather that you enjoyed and appreciated the attention. but honestly, you can still be straight and fall in love with a woman, so don’t fret, ‘non! i’ll be here for you if you start going through and identity crisis, but this is just a friendly reminder that you don’t have to change the way you identify because you’ve fallen for a girl. :>

i’m gonna publish this ask instead of the first one, since the first one is pretty personal and may be more triggering to others than this one.

it’s not at all childish, anon. there is no form of self-harm that is more normal or less normal than others. in fact, all forms of self-harm, while still not healthy, are very normal. it’s a destructive but common coping mechanism and you shouldn’t feel ‘chicken’ for scratching instead of cutting.

i would recommend getting support from your friends and family in real life, and seeking out professional help and therapy as well. if you’re in high school, your counselor may be able to help you for free. if you go to college, there may be a health center that offers free or inexpensive therapy and counseling. it’s better to nip it in the bud early on than wait for it to progress - believe me, i’ve been there. it’s gonna be a long, difficult journey, but not nearly as long and difficult as continuing down the path of self-harm would be, and the path to recovery may be hard but it is so worth it in the end.
