Speaking of PoC, I'd love to see a movie that takes place in Africa, based off of an African myth/legend/story with a strong female lead. Disney would be ideal, but I wouldn't mind seeing another animation company tackle it. After all, it could be their big break.

i’d really like to see that too! i’d like to see disney make a movie that is not set in a place where most of the people are white (or where it’s assumed that most of the people are white), just so they can’t use ~historical accuracy~ as an excuse for not including poc.

Disney fans forget that it's okay to like problematic things as long as you understand why they're problematic and are willing to discuss it. However, I don't think Walt was racist in that he HATED PoC, but his movies did show stereotypical portrayals of them, i.e. Dumbo, Song of the South, Aristocats, Lady and the Tramp, and by far the worst, Fantasia. But he did hate Jews...

agreed! i mean, none of us knew walt, so we can’t know how he felt about poc as people, but we do know that he perpetuated stereotypes in his films and that he lived in a time where prejudice was normal and generally accepted in the white community. and the stories of his anti-semitism are wide spread and are no more false than any other story about him that’s been passed down for years and years. it’s not a stretch - in fact, it’s completely accurate to call him racist. just because it was the norm back then doesn’t mean it wasn’t racist.

PoC term is used for anyone and all people that cannot pass for white. Cause if you can pass most passing people will check the "white" box on any document no matter what they really are. Bc they know that being white will get you ahead.

that’s what i thought. thanks!

Actually reverse racism (which is a joke because racism is racism not reversed) is real. Don’t believe me? Go to a black community event. I’ve tried to attend several to show support and was asked to leave.

that’s not racism, that’s them being uncomfortable in the presence of a person whose ancestors didn’t consider their ancestors human beings. this conversation is over now. i have no interest in discussing this issue with someone who can’t see the difference between real racism and reverse racism.

for some reason people think i’m super angry right now but i actually really like talking about these kinds of issues with my followers. it’s a kind of conversation that people don’t get exposed to all that often outside of tumblr and i’ll take any chance i can get to talk about it on a public scale.

I don't think Walt was racist. Even though it was wrong, he was born in 1901 and grew up in a time when that is just how things were. Just because he didn't try to get rid of racism does not mean he is racist. If that makes sense? I think it was just a different time.

just because that’s how things were doesn’t mean it’s not racist. i’m sure the poc back then thought it was very racist.

The personal problem I have with the term "person of color" is that it reminds me a lot of segregation and things being labeled as "for white" and "for colored" people. I'm white so anyone who isn't is more than welcome to explain why I'm wrong.

yeah, it took me awhile to get used to it because it seemed off to me for the same reason. but as soon as i realized it was the generally accepted term among poc, that’s when i started using it.

I'm black and I like being called black, and I know some Hispanics who like being called Hispanic rather than Latin American. I think the term poc is reaching a bit, honestly lol

poc is really an all encompassing term for anyone who isn’t white or, correct me if i’m wrong, white-passing and i don’t think it’s intended to be used to refer to just a single race.

My thing with African American is that doesn't take into account people from Jamica for example.

that’s very true! african american is not an all encompassing term for black people, which is probably why i haven’t seen anyone protest against the use of the term “black.”

A Princess technicolor Rainbow.  Just for fun. I’m thinking about putting this on a t-shirt. I need a little more color in my collection.
I know I haven’t updated in a while. My apologies for that. I’ve been working a lot more on animations, and those take me longer to knock out. For now, Enjoy
