As a colored person, painting myself white isn't even an option. It's just not feasible. I am naturally brown, and that's all I'll ever be. You are naturally white, and that's all you should ever be. Skin color is not a costume. You cannot wear it only when it's convenient for you. Whether you think so or not, it is undeniably racist to think that you can WEAR a skin tone (i.e. race) for a day; intentions don't matter. End. Of. Story.

Idkif you saw my other replies on why they’re racist. There are 5 stereotypes used in the black media, each one is a form of a racial slur.Blackface is offensive because it was the beginning of these stereotypes. Which effects black people to thisday

ok, so it’s never okay to alter your skin tone…Latino’s are more tan than caucasian people…should we all stop tanning then?

have you been reading any of the messages? it’s not okay to alter your skintone to look like a different race so you can play dress up for a little while. if you like to tan just because it’s a personal preference, than be my fucking guest but like i said before, a person’s race is not your fucking costume.

I'm just sitting here amazed at how many people are trying to explain away brownface and blackface like it's a cosplaying issue, not a moral issue. Like. In NO circumstance EVER is it okay to alter your skin color to look like the skin color of a different race. I mean I feel like that's a fairly basic concept? Doesn't matter what context. If I want to cosplay Jasmine or Tiana or something I'm just going to buy the dresses...? It wouldn't even occur to me to do brown or blackface.

it’s not as if being white will make you unrecognizable as those characters like i’m pretty sure anyone who knows who jasmine or tiana are will know that if i walk up in the club wearing jasmine’s outfit or tiana’s gown, they will know exactly who i’m trying to look like

you don't have to be a racist to do something racist. you don't have to deliberately or maliciously set out to do something racist, for it to be racist. It is racist because it's oppressive, because it's got hundreds of years of violent and silencing history behind it, and it's not your call to decide what's racist and what's not and in what context. when someone tells you an action is racist, and you still defend it/continue to do it? No. Stop. Think about the words coming out of your mouth.

bless u anon

especially when the person telling you it’s racist is actually of the race you’re offending you should listen, like how is there even a debate about that?

“i, as a white person, think that my opinions of what is harmful to poc are more important than yours, as a poc, are.” like ????? how do logic

I don't think I agree... I mean, if a person is doing blackface say, to portray a beloved character.. Then they are not doing it to be racist... If someone dressed up that way with the sole intention of being racist, Then that's different... But they aren't attempting to be racist, they are just simply doing it to dress up in a costume for fun

blackface is offensive for the same reason that having a black woman wearing a collar on a tv show set in modern times is offensive (i’m looking at you, supernatural!). because there is a negative, racist history there that cannot be erased, it’s inappropriate.

edit: also just because you aren’t trying to be offensive doesn’t mean you’re not being offensive. i’m sure disney wasn’t trying to be offensive with the many racist stereotypes they’ve included in their films, but at the end of the day, it was still racist and it was still offensive.

I agree with you on the topics of POC but you should really stop hiding behind your blog and voice your opinion on that cosplay girl TO HER FACE.
